2. Usage Guidelines for Different Concrete Structures

▪ Slabs and Beams:

For slabs and beams with large heights, concrete should be poured in layers. Before vibrating, the concrete surface should be spread evenly. As a rule of thumb, vibration should follow immediately after leveling to prevent premature setting and ensure bonding between layers.

If the concrete layer is thicker than 25 cm, use a higher-power vibrator. While vibrating, move the poker slowly, overlapping strokes by 5–10 cm. Keep the vibrator in one spot for approximately 30–50 seconds.

▪ Columns and Walls:

These are structural elements requiring high compaction quality. Follow these steps:

• Start by pouring a 30–40 cm layer at the base and vibrate thoroughly.

• Continue pouring in 60–80 cm layers until the desired height is reached.

• Insert the vibrator into the previous layer by about 20 cm to ensure proper bonding.

• Stop vibrating once cement slurry appears evenly on the surface.

• Avoid over-vibrating, which may dry out the mix or damage the formwork.

• Move the vibrator at intervals no greater than 1.5 times its effective radius, with a vibration time of 20–40 seconds per spot.

▪ Staircases:

Staircase concreting requires extra care, as it is prone to honeycombing. Vibrate while simultaneously leveling the surface to prevent concrete flow. Once the concrete sets, lightly tap the formwork surface with a rubber mallet to assess compaction quality.
